conversation in game maker

optimist

pessimist

I've written a game maker demo illustrating how to have a conversation with some limited variation.

There are separate arrays of optimistic and pessimistic phrases which are selected randomly in turn. These could be further expanded, I've only done a prototype.

Press spacebar to make the conversation alternate.

It's a small start to the more sophisticated grammars devised by Paul Goldenberg and Wallace Feurzeig in Exploring Language with Logo (MIT, 1987).

Fascinating linguistics connection Bill. Reminds me of the days when I messed about with a rough Basic version of some AI software several years ago.
